February 2 marks Twintail Day (ツインテールの日) in Japan, a holiday where otaku pay homage to the iconic “Twintail” hairstyle. With their popular appearance in anime, manga and video games, twintails have become a symbol of otaku culture.

The Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon franchise is credited with the initial popularization of twintails, thanks to protagonist Usagi Tsukino who wore them in the early 1990s, but it is since 2013, that users on social media have celebrated Twintail Day by sharing selfies and cosplay photos with the hashtag #ツインテールの日.

In addition, artists have also joined in by sharing many illustrations on sites such as Pixiv and Nico Nico Seiga.

Unsurprisingly, cosplayer and professional idols have also participated, posting photos with the Twintails on their social networks.

Join the celebration and show your love for Twintails waifu!
